Kingdom Hearts 3D only features one Minigame, and that is the Flick Rush tournament held in the Fourth District in Traverse Town. In Flick Rush, you can assemble a team of Dream Eaters to compete against other teams in card-based combat. The basics of Flick Rush, as well as the various tournaments you can compete in, are detailed below.
How to Play Flick Rush
The basics of Flick Rush are pretty simple to get down. Each Dream Eater you add to your party has a set of cards, numbered 0 through 9. The higher the number on the card, the more likely your attacks will go through and not be broken by your opponent’s cards (very similar to the Card Battle System featured in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories). Cards with a Star Rank cannot be broken and can also break any card already played. Keep this in mind as you play cards, and use your high level cards to break your opponents’.
How to Win
The object of any Flick Rush challenge is to bring all three of your opponent’s Dream Eaters down to zero HP. Use your own cards and abilities to deal damage to your opponent’s Spirits. The higher the value of your attack is, the more damage it’ll do.
Naturally, if your opponent brings all of your Dream Eaters down to zero HP, you will lose the match.
The Action Gauge
The Action Gauge is the bar featured below your list of available cards. Using cards to attack will deplete your Spirit’s Action Gauge. Keep this in mind as you attack. Using cards to defend will not deplete the Action Gauge.
If your Spirit’s Action Gauge depletes fully, you will not be able to play cards for a short period of time. The Action Gauge will gradually refill as the battle progresses.
Swapping Spirits
Your team consists of three Dream Eaters, which you can switch between at any point in the game. Touching a Spirit’s icon on the Touch Screen will change control to that Spirit.
You should note that Spirits are immune to damage while they are switching. You can use this to your advantage when your opponent is about to unleash a devastating attack.
Attacking
Each Dream Eater on your team has special abilities in Flick Rush, which are labeled on the cards that appear on the Touch Screen as you battle. To use these abilities against your opponents, use the Stylus or your finger to fling cards up toward the top screen on your Nintendo 3DS. If your card’s value is greater than your opponents’, their attack will be broken and yours will go through.
You can also rapidly fling multiple cards up to the top to Sleight your cards together, increasing the value of the attack and decreasing your chances of having your attack broken.
Defending
Flicking cards toward the bottom of the Touch Screen will generate a shield around your Spirit, defending them from enemy attack. If you successfully defend against your opponent’s attack, the card you defended with will be upgraded to a better card, giving you access to more powerful attacks and abilities. The card’s level will remain the same however, so do not think that your special cards are invincible.
You can pool cards together, just like when attacking, to create a higher defense, making it harder for your opponent to break through.
Duels
When you and your opponent play cards of equal value, you will enter Duel Mode. Cards will appear on both the top screen and the Touch Screen. You’ll need to rapidly fling cards to the top screen in order to get three of a kind. If you succeed, you’ll unleash a powerful attack that will break through your opponent’s defenses. If you lose, the same will happen to you.
While you are frantically flinging cards up toward the top screen, trying to get three in a row, your opponent will be doing the same. It is important to keep your eyes moving and watch the cards on the top screen. As you are working toward one three-of-a-kind, your opponent may have already changed several of the cards. You don’t want to fall behind and lose the duel.
Reloading Cards
The number shown at the bottom of the Touch Screen tells you how many cards your Spirit has left in its deck. When the number gets low, you can hold your current Spirit’s icon down on the Touch Screen to reload cards for use.
Reloading cards takes time though, and while you recharge your Spirit’s deck, they’ll be a sitting duck for incoming attacks. Switching to one of your other Spirits is sometimes a better way to go. Spirits’ decks will automatically charge gradually while you are using other Spirits.
