The only way you can get Blazing Stones in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is by defeating the special Chimera Heartless. This abomination appears only in Halloween town, specifically where you fought Oogie Boogie at the end of that World’s story.
The Chimera appears either right away, as soon as you enter the zone, or after you defeat a wave or two of the local Wight Heartless. So if you don’t see it right away, don’t despair–it might just need to be lured out.
A Blazing Stone has a 30% chance of dropping once you defeat the Chimera. But depending on how many times you can knock its heads back at it, that number will increase.
It can go all the way up to 100% if you’ve got the skills to pay the bills.
Tip: Getting the Chimera to respawn after defeating it may require leaving the world entirely (going to your Gummi Ship) and returning.
Let’s take a closer look at actually fighting this amalgamation.
The Chimera
As one of the many creatures added into the Final Mix (and all subsequent releases) of Kingdom Hearts, the Chimera can pose a significant threat if attempted at lower-level or unprepared.
The Chimera’s big gimmick is its heads.
See, this thing has two different life bars: its primary life bar is what you want to deplete and its secondary bar is what you have to get through in order to do that.
Depleting the secondary bar stuns the Chimera and causes its heads (depicted as a series of multi-colored orbs) to start flying towards your team.
Knocking these heads back towards the beast causes damage to its primary bar. Do this enough and boom, you’ve won.
You only have a limited time before the heads return and the cycle starts again, so be quick!
Here are some helpful hints to assist in knocking around the heads:
- The heads will target whoever is closest, be that Sora, Donald, or Goofy. You can summon either Bambi or Simba to remove the latter two members so the heads only chase after Sora, making it much easier to track them.
- Thunder Magic is perfect for clearing out the Gargoyles it summons quickly, allowing more attention to be paid towards the heads.
- Aero spells also reflect heads! If you’re having trouble baseballing them back, consider throwing up an Aero shield and using your body instead.
- Long Keyblades, such as the Metal Chocobo or Ultima Weapon, are the best choices for deflecting heads (or anything, for that matter). This truly is a case where length matters.
Using Blazing Stones
You’ll need 7 Blazing Stones to make one of everything that requires them via synthesis.
They’re used to make three pieces of equipment:
- Moogle Badge
- Seven Elements
- Crystal Crown
The Moogle Badge is a decent enough accessory and probably best utilized if you make it as soon as you can (it’ll get outclassed pretty fast as you travel through the game).
Seven Elements is a shield for Goofy that focuses on Magic, something he typically does not. It’s perfect for situations where you need to rely on his MP Gift ability, though. Get it early and it’ll work for a while, but it gets shown up by better shields like the Defender and Might Shield.
The Crystal Crown, on the other hand, is the shining star in the Blazing Stone trio. It is a true endgame gem and worth the effort. It gives a boost to all the primary stats as well as buffing summon and magic damage.
You’ll need to make one anyway for the Ultima Weapon, but consider, maybe, making another just because.
