The only Heartless that drops Bright Shards when defeated in battle are Green Requiems. The best place to farm these enemies is at the Cliffs in the Deep Jungle (where you fought the boss in the main story).
On the high cliffs to the right (entering from the Clearing), 10 Green Requiems will appear. Clear them out then hop down to leave and re-enter the zone to reset them.
This is the most efficient way of getting your Bright Shards.
Each Requiem has a 10% chance of dropping one. Add on a Lucky Strike ability (or two) and you’ll be swimming in shards in no time flat.
Let’s take a closer look at these Green Requiems, as well as a few other ways to farm for shards (that aren’t quite as good):
Green Requiems
Part of the musical magic floaty family of Heartless, these green guys adhere to a certain spell just like the rest of their colored family.
Their spell of choice? Cure.
They love to cure themselves and other enemies, which can be a real pain if left unchecked.
They also love to fly way up high and out of Sora’s reach. And the cherry on top? They’re highly magically resistant!
Having High Jump is key to chasing these guys down.
Also, a long Keyblade, such as the Metal Chocobo or the Ultima Weapon, helps a ton. If you have a real high magic stat you can Thunder them down, but good old fashioned melee is your best bet.
White Mushrooms
Note: Only the White Mushrooms in Deep Jungle and End of the World can drop Bright Shards.
If you’re out to get Bright Shards a slower way, you can always rely on White Mushrooms.
If you watch and wait until they’re on the ground (kind of like they’re doing a push-up), you can hit them with a cure spell and be rewarded.
If your third spell cast on them is Cure, you’ll get a Bright Shard 100% of the time.
This is a super reliable way to get the shards, but is time-consuming. You both have to get the Mushrooms to appear (which takes a lot of going between areas) and then you have to wait until they do the correct animation.
Bambi (Agrabah)
The Fawn Prince of the Forest can be summoned in Agrabah to try for a Bright Shard. You have to fill his meter three times before he goes away for a 30% chance of a Bright Shard, so this is the slowest and least reliable way to get the item.
However if you’re early in farming and still lower-level, or if you want to try for Shards earlier than Hollow Bastion, then Bambi can get it done for you–provided you have the patience.
Using Bright Shards
You’ll need 13 Bright Shards to make one of everything that requires them.
Bright Shards are used to make a mixed bag of goods. Cottages are useful, but not really necessary.
The Energy Bangle and Guard Earrings are great early-to-mid game accessories, but the true prize is the Cosmic Arts.
Cosmic Arts boosts HP by a whopping 9, which is one of the biggest HP increases you can get from an accessory. It’s amazing for Donald or a Sora that chose the Mage way of life.
