Best Farming Location | Atlantica – Triton’s Palace |
Bambi Location | Wonderland |
Your best bet for farming Frost Gems is by fighting Sea Neons and Sheltering Zones in Atlantica. Enter at the Triton’s Throne save point, then leave the area to Triton’s Palace and two Sheltering Zones will appear right away.
Clean them up then turn right around to exit the world and re-enter and do it again.
If you have the Encounter Plus ability, now’s the time to use it. With it on, you won’t have to leave the world, just reset the area.
Tip: Be sure to equip Lucky Strike as well.
Frost Gems from Sea Neons are, unfortunately, one of the slower farms in the game. The drop rates aren’t great and fighting these guys isn’t very quick either.
The second-best method is, of all things, Bambi!
Usually a last resort, the forest prince comes through here. Summon him in the Bizarre Room in Wonderland and start taking down Heartless. This area has a lot of them, so no worries.
Get three or more bars and Bambs has a 30% chance of dropping a Frost Gem. Not amazing odds, but a solid alternative to having to deal with Alanatica and its challenges.
Sheltering Zones & Sea Neons
A Sheltering Zone is a big version of a Sea Neon.
When you defeat a Shelter, it splits into three Neons. This is helpful, actually, because fighting both increases your odds of getting the Gem.
There’s not a lot to say about them as enemies.
They don’t really do much and can be easily taken down with Thunder or Blizzard magic.
Be warned though, sometimes defeating a Sheltering Zone with magic will prevent it from splitting into Neons, which is antithetical to your farming operation.
Also, it helps to take off the Mermaid Kick ability when farming, as you’ll have to change elevation a lot and nothing is worse than accidentally speeding off in a random direction because you pressed the square button too many times.
White Mushrooms
When you spot a gang of White Mush, pay attention!
If one of them starts fanning themselves in a pantomime of being hot, blast it with a Blizzard spell.
If you can do that three times in a row, the Mushroom has a 10% chance of dropping a Frost Gem.
Honestly, this is the worst way to farm any synthesis Gems unless you’re also farming for either Mystery Goo or Blizzard Arts items at the same time.
Bambi
When summoned in Wonderland, Bambi has a 30% chance to drop a Frost Gem if you can fill up 3+ bars before he goes away.
This is easiest to do in the Bizarre Room, where lots of Heartless appear.
Just do laps around the table and swing away.
While not 100% reliable, Bambi provides an easier method of farming that can also get you other synthesis materials from the Heartless you face, including Spirit Shards and Gems and maybe even a Fury Stone or two if you get lucky.
Using Frost Gems
You’ll need 10 Frost Gems to make one of everything that requires them via synthesis.
AP Ups are always useful, but labor-intensive to create.
The Rune Armlet is an okay mid-tier piece of gear, and the Ribbon is probably the best of the bunch (though also not spectacular).
Ultimately, Frost Gems are a necessary evil required to unlock better recipes with the Moogles as well as the Ultima Weapon. Keep at it, I believe in you!
