The best place to farm for Frost Shards is in Wonderland’s Lotus Forest. Enter from the Queen’s Castle and fight your way through to the Tea Party Garden. This will have you face at least ten Blue Rhapsodies (among other Heartless).
After that, simply double back to the Queen’s Castle (with a chance for more Rhapsodies on the way) and leave the world and return to reset the farm!
Blue Rhapsodies have a 12% chance of dropping a Frost Shard, which are pretty good odds, especially when facing so many of them.
You can help this along in a few ways:
Equip the Lucky Strike and Encounter Plus abilities. This increases the odds of a Shard dropping, as well as making sure the Rhapsodies appear every time you enter the forest.
Another cheeky little trick is to summon Bambi while you farm Rhapsodies. In Wonderland, Bambi has a good chance to drop a Frost Shard if you can fill his bar 3+ times. This is easy to do in the Lotus Forest–there are a lot of Heartless!
All in all, Frost Shards are one of the simpler materials to farm.
But let’s look a bit closer at the enemies involved:
Blue Rhapsodies
These little cuties are attuned to the element of Ice, which means you’ll be facing a slew of Blizzard and Blizzaras.
They’re also fairly fast and stay on the fringe of the battlefield.
Stop magic works well, but Thunder and Fire work better.
The faster you react, the quicker these little buggers go away and subsequently, get you your shards.
There’s not a lot to say about the Blue Rhapsodies. They don’t have a lot of HP and just require a specific bit of magic to defeat.
White Mushrooms
If you encounter some White Mushrooms instead of Heartless while farming the Lotus Forest, take a moment to see what aid you can provide them.
When a White Mushroom starts fanning itself as though it’s hot, that’s your cue to hit it with a Blizzard spell.
If your third (and ONLY the third) spell you cast on it is a Blizzard spell, the Mushroom has a 30% chance of dropping a Frost Shard.
This is too slow and unpredictable to be a reliable farming method.
But if you come across a pack of them while searching for Rhapsodies, you may as well give their game a go.
Bambi (Wonderland)
Most of the time, using Bambi to farm materials is slow-going and a last resort. However, when hunting for Frost Shards, the stars align and Bambi can be a tremendous boon.
When summoned in Wonderland (which is where we’re farming Blue Rhapsodies anyways), Bambi has a chance to drop Frost Shards if you can fill his meter three times over.
It takes about six Heartless KOs to fill the bar. And you should have no problem tripling that.
It’s not a promise that you’ll get a Frost Shard, but the chance exists. And it’s a great way to rack up bonus items simply for having Bambi around.
Using Frost Shards
You’ll only need 10 Frost Shards to make one of everything that requires them via synthesis. That’s not too bad!
Mega-Ethers are super handy, especially around the middle of the game. And the Atlas Armlet is a really great accessory for Donald.
Of course, you’re also making all this stuff to eventually unlock the Ultima Weapon. So even if you never use the accessories you’ll be glad you made them!
