The best way to get Serenity Crystals is by finding, and using, the rare Bulky Vendor Heartless.
In fact, this heartless is the only one that drops Serenity Crystals in all of KH2.
So if you’re struggling to get them as drops this way then you’ll need to actually synthesize Serenity Crystals (yes, there’s a recipe for making this material). But getting them via the Vendors is often much faster.
The Vendor Heartless has a specific Reaction Command that turns its dial and gets you a capsule. The quality of this capsule depends on how much life the Vendor has left when you go for it.
To get a Serenity Crystal you’ll have to wait until the Vendor’s last life bar.
Their HP depletes on its own, so it’s a waiting game.
Stick close and as soon as its HP enters the last bar, hit the Reaction Command (it should be called “Prime Capsule”).
A Prime Capsule has a 100% chance of giving a Serenity Crystal. So only a Prime Capsule will get what you want.
Let’s discuss how to find Bulky Vendors in more detail here, as well as the other more complicated way to get these Crystals.
Hunting Bulky Vendors
The first step to farming these dudes is to save on the world map.
Then return to the title screen and reload your game. This resets the spawn table for Bulky Vendors.
Next, head to Land of Dragons.
Enter at the Bamboo Grove save point and head through the Encampment to the Checkpoint.
The odds are good that you aren’t going to spot a Bulky Vendor, but that’s cool. This is just the start.
The trick here is to enter and exit the Checkpoint three times (you want to see the transition three times).
This (somehow) manipulates the game’s RNG and sets up Vendor spawn patterns.
Next up, leave and let’s head to Olympus – Cave of the Dead: Entrance.
When you enter an area with a Vendor, you’ll see a little pop-up that says “There’s a rare Heartless”! In the top-left of the screen (like in the picture above).
The Vendors hide in an object somewhere in that specific area, so you’ll have to suss them out.
In the Cave of the Dead: Entrance, the Vendors will be hiding in the circle of torches in the center of the room.
Just bash them out and chase them down to get your drops.
Next up is to leave the world and then disembark at Beast’s Castle – West Wing.
Enter from Beast’s Room and head towards the West Hall.
The Vendors will be hiding in the suits of armor in the hallway that leads to the Entranceway. Farm them the same way and then we’re off to the next destination…
So leave and fly to Halloween Town – Candy Cane Lane.
The Vendors will be hiding in the carousel in the splat center. You have to use the Spin Reaction Command to get them out of there. Take care of them the same way & aim for as many Serenity Crystals as you can get.
Finally, let’s head to Agrabah – Bazaar for the last farming spot in this route.
The Bulky Vendors hide in one of the various stalls, so just swing big and destroy them all.
This is a big area without the stalls, and there are other annoying Heartless kicking around. So this is the most troublesome area to get Prime Capsules.
After you run the route, return to the world map to save.
Then return to the title screen and do it all again! It can be a bit of a grind, but forcing the RNG this way will save a ton of time.
Alternative Method: Making Serenity Crystals
One of the new features in the Final Mix version of KH2 is the ability to synthesize Serenity Crystals.
To do so, you’ll need to level your Moogle to level 8, upon which you’ll get the recipe as a prize.
You’ll also need all the ingredients. Take a gandy-gander at the chart below to find out where to get whatever you’d need to synthesize your own Serenity Crystals:
Material | Location |
---|---|
Tranquility Crystals |
|
Remembrance Crystal |
|
Bright Crystal |

Using Serenity Crystals
You’ll need 17 Serenity Crystals to make one of everything that requires them.
The Simba’s share of these crystals will be used with Sora’s Ultima Weapon, which requires a hefty 7 of them in total.
Though since you can also make Lucky Rings with the Crystals, the odds are good you’ll want more and more.
