Band of Pirates
As soon as you touch down in Port Royal for your second visit, Jack Sparrow is in over his head down at the “Harbor”.
Event: Defeat all the Undead PiratesThe Undead Pirates are still out and about, despite their leader, Captain Barbossa, being gone. Remember that you can only damage the Undead Pirates when their skeletons are exposed in the moonlight. They are also highly susceptible to magic, so be sure to use that to your advantage while fighting them. Be sure to make good use of their Reaction Commands too – they definitely come in handy when you’re outnumbered and backed into a corner! |
Once the pirates have been defeated, it’s time to investigate why they’re still cursed. Head out the ship and talk to Jack to head out to the “Isla de Muerta: Rock Face”. A cutscene plays before you can get there. Afterwards, head out onto the deck, where a member of Organization XIII has a rather outrageous proposition for you.
Boss: Grim ReaperHP: 790 STR: 35 DEF: 20 Compared to your recent battles, this one is a walk in the park! The Grim Reaper will hardly attack or defend or do anything other than take hits. Just nail it with combo after combo and it will drop sooner than you think. Victory against the Grim Reaper earns you the Summon Boost Ability for Sora, an HP +4 Get Bonus for Donald, the Draw Ability for Goofy, and an HP +10 Get Bonus for Jack Sparrow. |
Find the Medallions
The encounter with Luxord and the Grim Reaper leaves Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Jack Sparrow shipwrecked at the “Ship’s Graveyard: The Interceptor’s Hold”. Several of the cursed medallions have been taken from the chest, so you now have to get them back. Before heading out, be sure to open the nearby Treasure Chest to obtain the Feather Charm. This item allows you to summon Peter Pan to aid you in battle.
The medallions are scattered all over the place, and each one is guarded by a series of timed battles. If you manage to get the medallion within the time limit, you simply move on to the next location. If you fail, just leave the area and come back. The timer and the battle will reset so you can try again. The locations and time limits for each battle are listed below.
- “Ship’s Graveyard: Seadrift Row” – 2 Minutes
- “Ship’s Graveyard: Seadrift Keep” – 30 Seconds
- “Isla de Muerta: Cave Mouth” – 10 Seconds
- “Isla de Muerta: Powder Store” – 2 Minutes
- “Isla de Muerta: Moonlit Nook” – 3 Minutes
- “Isla de Muerta: Treasure Heap” – 1 Minute 30 Seconds
Lifting the Curse
Once you’ve collected all six medallions, return to the “Harbor” to bring them back to the chest. Unfortunately, the Grim Reaper is waiting for you when you arrive, and it’s not such a pushover anymore!
Boss: Grim ReaperHP: 790 STR: 35 DEF: 20 The Grim Reaper has gotten a lot tougher since your last encounter! The majority of this battle will not be spent fighting the Grim Reaper though. You will be spending 95% of this battle collecting medallions that the Grim Reaper scatters all over the ground and returning them to the chest so you can undo the curse and actually hit the Grim Reaper. This is literally one of, if not the most annoying battles in Kingdom Hearts II! The Grim Reaper is immune to damage while under the influence of the curse. You can attack it to make it drop MP Orbs, which you will need a lot of in this battle! Attacking the Grim Reaper with magic will make it drop any medallions it may be carrying. Collect them and return them to the chest to lift the curse. Now you can actually damage the Grim Reaper with standard attacks. Eventually, the Grim Reaper will try to suck up more medallions to invoke the curse again. Interrupt his actions with the Hinder Reaction Command and follow up with the Loot Launch Reaction Command to send the Grim Reaper reeling. It’ll spill a good portion of the Medallions it collected from its vortex attack all over the ground so you can easily pick them up and return them to the chest. You should consider switching into Valor Form when the Grim Reaper becomes vulnerable again and really dealing some serious damage! It may make the battle go a lot quicker, plus the instant MP and HP recovery comes in handy. Victory against the Grim Reaper earns you the next Magnet Element for Sora (upgrading his Magnet spell to Magnera), the Flare Force Ability for Donald (which allows him to use the Duck Flare Limit Command), an HP +4 Get Bonus for Goofy, and an HP +15 Get Bonus for Jack Sparrow. |
With the Grim Reaper defeated, it’s time to head out to the next world.
