Hungry Gems are extremely rare, and there’s only one possible way of obtaining them in the entire game: Frost Serpents found in Arendelle drop them, but only if you target and break their tails.
Hungry Gems cannot be bought or synthesized at the Moogle Shop at any point. So you can only acquire them by farming the Frost Serpents.
Note: Hungry Gems also cannot be farmed at any of the battlegates that appear during end-game.
Arendelle Farming Route
Warp in from the Mountain Ridge save point.

Enter the cave to your northeast to access the Frozen Wall area.

Here, follow the mountain path past the Large Bodies and into a large clearing.
Proceed to the middle of the clearing and a couple of Frost Serpents will appear along with a few Dusks and Satyrs.
The Frost Serpents have large skeletal heads and bodies with icy spikes all over. Their wings are crystalline-looking, with a stained glass pattern on each of them.

Frost Serpents are some of the toughest non-boss enemies in the game.
They have two attack modes: an aerial mode where they use long range lasers and area-of-effect tornadoes, and a grounded mode where they use more close range attacks.

They become grounded if their wings are destroyed.
But in order to obtain Hungry Gems, you must keep them airborne. Frost Serpents only drop Hungry Gems if you attack their tails while they’re flying, so avoid hitting and breaking the wings.
The most efficient way of taking out these Frost Serpent’s tails for Hungry Gems is by using Firagas from long range. Lock on whenever the target falls over the tail and immediately start casting Firaga.

The Frost Serpents drop Hungry Gems 20% of the time.
This may seem adequate; however, since they also drop Hungry Crystals at a 20% rate from their tails, the drops between gems and crystals will vary during each run.
In order to prioritize gems over crystals, one good trick is to unequip any Lucky Strikes you’ve got.
Without the Lucky Strikes, you will have a better chance of getting Hungry Gems instead of the crystals.

Tip: For Hungry Gem farming, you don’t need to kill the Frost Serpents. After obtaining the gems from the tails, just return to the cave entrance and re-enter into the Frozen Wall area to reset all the enemies.
