Lightning Crystals are perhaps one of the most difficult materials to farm in the entire game.

They are only dropped by Tireblades, which are found exclusively in San Fransokyo. And Tireblades have a terrible drop rate for Lightning Crystals. This means farming them will take a bit of time, so set your expectations accordingly.

Note: Lightning Crystals cannot be bought; however, you can synthesize them in the Moogle Shop.

San Fransokyo Farming Route

Warp in from the North District: Night save point and head south.

When you arrive in the Central District, start scaling the tops of the buildings.

The Tireblades spawn in groups on the rooftops of the buildings in the area. These robotic Heartless have wheels for arms that turn into bladed wings when they go airborne.

When on the ground, they will attack with targeted missiles.

Dodge the missiles, or better yet block them and the missiles will reflect back at the tireblades.

While airborne, they spin around, slashing at you with their bladed wings.

They are weak to thunder magic so use Thundaga to clear out groups quickly.

But with a meager 2% drop rate, Tireblades won’t part with Lightning Crystals easily.

Make sure you have all the Lucky Strikes equipped in your arsenal. Patience is key here. Set aside a couple of hours solely for Lightning Crystal farming and slowly but surely your crystal tally will start going up.

Cover the length of the area, fighting tireblades along the way, then warp in and out of world via save point to make them respawn.

Battlegate 4

You can obtain Lightning Crystals a bit faster from Battlegate 4 during the end-game. Complete the main story and you can access Battlegates scattered throughout the worlds.

Battlegate 4 is located in the Toy Box world.

Land at the Kid Korral save point and the entrance of the battlegate will be right next to you.

Note that you’ll still have to face the Tireblades in the Battlegate if you want Lightning Crystals. So make the right preparations before going in.

Using Lightning Crystals

Lightning Crystals are required for six recipes, and you must have at least 7 crystals in total to synthesize at least one copy of each recipe.
