Writhing Crystals

You can only farm Writhing Crystals in San Fransokyo. They are dropped by the Mechanitaurs found throughout the city. These Heartless are no pushovers, and it is best to tackle them when you’re at a fairly higher level.

Note: Writhing Crystals cannot be bought from the Moogle Shop. You can only synthesize them using a recipe.

San Fransokyo Farming Route

Enter from the North District: Night save point and start exploring the city.

Mechanitaurs usually appear on the roads and under tall buildings.

These Heartless are a more powerful and aggressive version of the Satyrs. Their black armor has a mechanical look with horns that look like tiny steam engines and have distinct screws attached to their shoulder plates.

Mechanitaurs can get ruthless.

If you let your guard down, they’ll have you juggling in the air in no time. Magic is your best bet here; just keep your distance and attack with your strongest long range spells.

Get out of their way when they’re about to tackle you, because they can’t be blocked. Try to take them out one at a time and don’t let them gang up on you.

Mechanitaurs spawn throughout the city.

They have an 8% chance of dropping Writhing Crystals and after a few good runs around the area, you can collect a decent amount of crystals from them.

Just ensure you are adequately leveled up before trying to farm them; otherwise, the battles will get too frustrating to have a proper farming session.

Battlegate 12

Writhing Crystals can be farmed from Battlegate 12 during end-game.

Battlegates appear after completing the main story, where you can farm materials and earn rewards upon clearing.

Warp in from the North District save point (day or night).

Just stay on the spot and look up to the left for a large, circular building with spinning fans.

Wall-run to the top of this building to find the blue crystal orb entrance to Battlegate 12 on the helipad.

Using Writhing Crystals

Writhing Crystals are required for five recipes, and you must have at least 6 crystals in total to synthesize at least one copy of each recipe.
