Writhing Gems

Writhing Gems can be farmed easiest from Arendelle and the Kingdom of Corona. These gems can be obtained as drops from Helmed Bodies in Arendelle, and Flutterings in the Kingdom of Corona.

Depending on your farming preferences, you can choose between stronger enemies with higher drop rates or weaker enemies with lower chances of obtaining Writhing Gems.

Tip: You need to collect 20 Writhing Gems before you can buy them from the Moogle Shop.

Arendelle Farming Route

Land at the Treescape save point and head north.

Soon, a large group of Heartless including Helmed Bodies will attack Sora.

The Helmed Bodies are just a stronger version of the Large Bodies. They look almost exactly the same, except for their horned helmets and gold manacles.

The Helmed Bodies will immediately start sliding all over the snow to charge at you.

Jump over them and attack from above. Similar to Large Bodies, they are impervious to any physical attack from the front. So either get behind to land a hit or exploit their weakness and use Blizzard magic from afar.

Helmed Bodies have an 8% chance of dropping Writhing Gems and up to ten of them spawn in the Treescape area.

Their higher HP means farming will take longer, but you can still get a good amount of Writhing Gems if you keep at it and make a few repeated runs around the area.

Re-enter from the nearest save point to make the respawn.

Kingdom of Corona Farming Route

For a more relaxed farming session, you can look for the Fluttering Heartless in the Kingdom of Corona.

First, warp in from the Tower save point and head into the cave right behind you.

Inside the tunnel, a group of six Flutterings will appear.

These Heartless look like regular bats from a distance.

Up close, you will notice that instead of proper wings, they have an umbrella-like wing span with beady eyed, tiny heads.

They use a variety of aerial attacks, though nothing that you can’t handle. Dodge or block when they go spinning around. They are weak to blizzard and you can one shot whole groups with a well timed Blizzaga.

After clearing out the tunnel, head back to the Tower and warp down to the Campsite save point.

Head north into the Wetlands.

Once you reach the opening, head south-west where you will spot a cave entrance under the rocks.

Inside, you will find Flutterings everywhere.

Clear all of them out and rinse and repeat, warping back and forth between the Tower and Campsite savepoints.

Despite the Fluttering’s low 4% drop rate for Writhing Gems, their low HP and vulnerability to Blizzard spells will allow you to end up with a very good haul after a few quick runs.

Battlegate 0

Just like the shards and stones, you can farm Writhing Gems at Battlegate 0 during end-game.

Unlike the rest of the Battlegates, you don’t need to complete the main story to unlock Battlegate 0. You can access it during the Keyblade Graveyard story sequence before the final boss.

Battlegate 0 appears in three locations in the keyblade Graveyard. The warp menu thumbnails for Trail of Valediction, Twist of Isolation, and Tower of Endings show the Battlegate 0 entrance.

Just warp in from any landing point with a visible blue crystal on the thumbnail.

Using Writhing Gems

Writhing Gems are required for seven recipes, and you must have at least 16 gems in total to synthesize at least one copy of each recipe.
