Writhing Shards

Your material farming will most likely begin with Writhing Shards in Kingdom Hearts 3.

The Shadow Heartless, found in multiple worlds throughout the game, drop Writhing Shards aplenty. Their best farming spot is in the Olympus world, in the Cliff Ascent area of Mount Olympus.

Note: Writhing Shards can be bought in the Moogle Shop after collecting 30 of them from drops.

Olympus Farming Route

Land at the Agora save point, turn around and head into the mountains.

Make your way through the Ravine.

When you reach the end, turn left and start going up the mountain path into the Cliff Ascent area. Ignore most enemies that come your way and keep wall-running up the mountain.

When you reach a very high, climbable wall beside a waterfall, turn right where you see a couple of large steps leading up to a cavern opening.

Enter the cavern where a bunch of Shadows will start spawning.

The titular enemies of the series return with their classic look in Kingdom Hearts 3.

The Shadows attack with their typical scratches and lunges which you can easily dodge or block. Use your water spells when they meld into the ground to wash them out.

If you want to speed up your farming sessions make sure you have at least one area of effect spell in your arsenal.

Shadows overrun this small area, allowing you to decimate large groups with spells like Thundaga or Aeroga.

The 8% drop rate for Writhing Shards combined with their large number, makes this location ideal for efficient farming.

Just clear them all out and warp back from the nearest save point to make them respawn.

Twilight Town (Optional)

You can also find Writhing Shards scattered around in the environment in Twilight Town.

Land at The Old Mansion save point and head outside.

Cross the Woods and enter the Underground Conduit.

The inside of the conduit is lined with breakable boxes and trash bags. Just smash your way around to obtain multiple Writhing Shards from all the trash bags you destroy.

Battlegate 0

If you missed farming Writhing Shards earlier in the game, Battlegate 0 located in the Keyblade Graveyard, is the best place to farm during end-game.

Battlegates appear throughout the worlds after completing the main story.

However, Battlegate 0 is the exception, as it appears within the main story during the Keyblade Graveyard battle sequence.

The entrance to Battlegate 0 can be found in three locations within the Keyblade Graveyard.

Open the warp menu and you can see the blue orb entrance in the thumbnail previews of the Trail of Valediction, Twist of Isolation, and Tower of Endings save points.

Just warp in from any of these locations and you can access Battlegate 0.

Using Writhing Shards

Writhing Shards are required for four recipes, and you must have at least 17 shards in total to synthesize at least one of each recipe.
